Jean Mangharam is a consultant ergonomist and human factors specialist with a Masters Degree in Environmental Health from the University of Cincinnati (1998) specialising in Ergonomics/Systems Safety and Industrial Hygiene and a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy from Curtin University (1992).
She is a Certified Professional Ergonomist and Registered Physiotherapist. Jean works closely with industry leaders to develop strategies and implement health interventions at all levels of prevention through design, research, education and collaboration. She is the recipient of a NIOSH (US Federal Govt) academic scholarship and was the Principal Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE) Scientific Officer/Inspector for WorkSafe WA between 2005-2020, leading a multidisciplinary team that worked across all domains of HFE through education, partnership and enforcement. Jean is a Committee Member on two Australian Standard Committees- Safety of Machinery; and Eye and Face Protection. Jean is a lecturer and researcher at Curtin University and has conducted quantitative and qualitative research within the fields of epidemiology, biomechanics and stakeholder engagement.
She has published chapters, peer- reviewed articles and policy documents. She is an alumnus of the UWA Perth Stanford Biodesign and Centre for Entrepreneurial Research and Innovation (CERI) programs. She has an interest in integrating new technology into environmental and public health. She has worked and studied in Australia, UK and USA.
