Dan’s passion for safety was ignited by his own ‘Beaconsfield’ moment—being trapped in the basket of an underground explosives truck after a rock fall. During the three hours he waited for rescue, he came to understand the true meaning of safety for both workers and organisations. That experience crystallised his values of gratitude, empathy, and legacy—principles that continue to underpin his personal and professional life.
A transformational HSE leader, Dan has over 18 years’ experience driving safety, risk, and governance outcomes across high-risk industries including infrastructure, energy, mining, and renewables. His career began underground, and that defining moment shaped his lifelong commitment to protecting people and improving systems.
Dan helps organisations solve complex safety and compliance challenges by designing and embedding risk-based frameworks that are practical, scalable, and culturally aligned. Whether leading WHS strategy for billion-dollar infrastructure projects, advising boards on governance, or mentoring frontline teams, he brings a balance of technical rigour, commercial acumen, and human-centred leadership.
His expertise lies in translating safety from a compliance obligation into a strategic enabler. Dan has led multi-disciplinary teams, delivered enterprise-wide system transformations, and built behavioural safety programs that stick. He is also an ICAM Lead Investigator, FGIA Fellow, and an active contributor to industry standards and mentoring programs.
Dan thrives in environments where safety is leveraged for performance, not just protection, and where leadership is measured by legacy, not just metrics.
